Subway Flatizza Review
My office is one block away from a Subway restaurant. Last week, while busy with a project and not wanting to take a full lunch break but needing something to eat, I thought I’d run down the block to grab a sandwich. It was a better decision than hitting the vending machine or letting my hunger grow out of control…or so I thought.
I was fully intending on choosing a healthy sandwich chock full of lean meat and veggies. (Don’t we always have the best of intentions??) But as I walked into Subway, their marketing posters and signage worked their magic and enticed me into trying their new Flatizza pizzas.
I ordered the Pepperoni Flatizza, with the addition of black olives, and brought it back to my desk to eat. I opened up the box and my first thought was: “holy grease”! I did my best to blot up the excess oil but you can see that it already was soaking through the box.
The Flatizza is something I won’t order again. I did like the flat bread being used as a crust but the cheese was too thick and had turned rubbery in the toaster. I ended up picking clumps of it off. If I was to order this again, I would request half the amount of cheese. There was also a noticeable lack of flavor. It would be vastly improved with some herbs and seasonings being added. For over 500 calories and 26 grams of fat, this splurge was not worth it in my book.
I knew that I could do better on an individual, flat bread style pizza. So today over lunch, I got to work on taming my pizza cravings for half the calories of my previous fast food lunch.
Check out these nutrition stats – what an improvement! And as someone who appreciates volume, I loved that I could have two of these pizzas, along with a side salad for some bulk and veggies, and still be under 300 calories.
